The Lord teaches the people that those who eat His flesh and drink His blood have eternal life.  May our frequent reception of Holy Communion strengthen us with God's grace in the messiness of life and inspire us to live for Jesus Christ.

Jesus teaches the crowds that he is the "Bread of Life" that came down from Heaven.  Whoever eats this bread will never hunger again.  May we draw near to the one who feeds us so that strengthened by the Lord we can share His life with one another.

One of the best ways to face a test in school is to start with a prayer, asking the Lord for peace in our hearts.  One of the best ways to face a test in life?  Do the same!

Jesus states that he is "the Bread of Life" and when we draw near to Him we will never hunger nor thirst again.  We need this spiritual nourishment to grow and thrive in this life...and in preparation for the next.

One of the hallmarks of the Early Church was the transformation that took place in the hearts of the disciples.  Standing before the Risen Lord, they were freed from the fear of sin and death as they opened their hearts to the power of repentance.  Their example inspires us to call upon God for the grace we need every day to walk in the light His love.

As the early Church began to grow new ministries were called for as needs were discerned.  This is how the Church continues to thrive today: we recognize the need, call forth the people and are guided by key principles to direct our effort.  Now get to work!

Anyone who loves cooking knows the wonderful smell of fresh baked bread.  Our bodies require daily nourishment to thrive, and we rely on spiritual food for our relationship with the Lord.  Jesus offers both in John's account today of the miracle of the fish and loaves.

The Apostles speak boldly about the Risen Lord in the face of opposition, and their example inspires us to call upon the Holy Spirit for strength and wisdom as we journey through this life...with our eyes focused on Heaven.

While today's passage from the Gospel of John remains one of the most well known and beloved of all Scripture, the verses that follow indicate the choice that we all have to make.  Do we seek Christ, the Light of the world, or do we prefer darkness...because our deeds are evil?  May we face our temptations and resolutely follow the Lord, whose light shines in our world and helps us find our way.

Jesus speaks with Nicodemus about the Holy Spirit.  We have received this Spirit in our hearts at Baptism, and the Lord gives us the strength and wisdom to make our way through this life to Heaven.  Our task: to let the Spirit work in our lives!

The unity of the disciples through gratitude, love and peace offers us an example of how we draw together today with the people God puts in our lives.  This is is not easy work...but it is worth it!

As the disciples moved from doubt to bold belief, we see the process that often accompanies our transformation in faith.  We need time to understand, integrate and apply God's grace to our lives; may this Easter season help us to proclaim the Good News with boldness!

After the resurrection Jesus appears to the Apostles and explains how he has fulfilled the prophecies within the Sacred Scriptures; that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer, die and be raised on the third day.  He concludes this passage with a powerful exhortation, "You are witnesses of these things."  Our faith was built on the witness of others, and our lived example of faith helps others encounter the Risen Lord today.

Mary Magdalene was the first person to see the Risen Lord.  Empowered by Jesus, she is sent to proclaim the resurrection to the Apostles.  Her example reminds us that God continues to bless us in our weaknesses and strengthen us for service in the world today.

The resurrection of Jesus brings hope and life as we turn away from our sins and embrace the living Lord.  No matter what's happened in the past, may we draw strength from God's love and walk in the light of Christ's amazing grace.  The Lord is risen!  He is risen, indeed.

The Lord tells Peter to follow him and not focus on what others are doing.  What a good reminder for us!  May we recognize that the Lord has plans for us all; our task: to carry out our work and follow Jesus with all our heart.

"Do you love me?" This is the question that the Lord puts to Peter three times following the resurrection.  It's a good reminder, for in the end our lives are measured by the love - shared and received - that's found in our hearts.

Jesus tells his heavenly Father, "I pray for them." His words offer hope: the Lord prays for us!  Our faith, transmitted through time and space from those first disciples, inspires us to pray for one another with the grace and strength of Christ.

We say in the creed, "He ascended into Heaven" yet we often do not consider what that means for our lives here on earth:

  • Where are we going?
  • What are we doing?
  • How are we doing it?

With Heaven as our home we can evaluate and review our words and actions in preparation for the day when the Lord calls us to follow Him from this world to the next.

"Whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you" reminds us that our requests are rooted in our relationship with the Lord.  As we grow closer to Christ we change and grow, not only learning what to ask for, but trusting that the one who knows us best will give us what we need.

The Lord bluntly teaches that grief is part of our journey of faith, but that it is not the final destination. As we face our challenges today we turn to Jesus Christ for the strength and guidance that will bring us to joy in His kingdom.
