The words of Christ reveal links in a chain: Love of the Father...Love of Christ....our Love for one another. As yesterday's illustration of vine/branches pointed out, our love is rooted in Christ and flows into the hearts of those around us.

The readings reveal two aspects of the Church: growing & glorified. Through the times of both blessing and burden the command of Christ to Love shapes our lives as disciples, and directs us to love each and every day.

This homily, which takes places during a Healing Mass that offers the Anointing of the Sick, shows how the healing we receive finds its source in the Lord's grace. What's more, we not only receive Christ's healing, but we also serve as the Lord's healing instruments to those around us.

"That's hard!" How often did we say that as kids? (How often do we say it as adults?!) Yet facing the hard stuff is part of life - with God's help as we strive to act as disciples of Jesus Christ.

In both the 1st Reading and the Gospel we have references to teaching: Philip teaches the Ethiopian eunuch and Jesus instructs the people in the "Bread of Life" discourse. Note how the teaching leads to the sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist! May our faith help us to enter ever deeper into our life in Jesus Christ.

What gives people strength to carry on when the going gets tough? To hang in there when it is painful, difficult, or oppressive? The struggles of the early Church were sustained by their faith in Christ, who promised eternal life to all who believe in him.

The Apostles continue to preach the message of Christ in the context of persecution. They are freed from fear! How is this possible? Where do they get their strength? The Gospel answer: the Love of Christ poured out through his Death and Resurrection has transformed them. May the Lord's love cast out our fears as well.

The reading from the Acts of the Apostles reveals the unity of "one heart and mind" that the early Church practiced in the days following the Lord's resurrection. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, the first followers of Jesus Christ shared their goods in common, worked together, and dedicated their efforts to building up one another. What a great image for us to keep before us in our lives today!

The Scriptures this week reveal two key aspects of the Disciples' lives:
Simply put, they have become Living Gospels - receiving the Risen Lord so that they might boldly share their faith with others. In just the same way, may we receive Christ - in Sacrament, Scripture, Fellowship and Prayer - so that we can give the love of Christ to those we meet.

This is now the third day in a row where we perceive the same pattern: An encounter with Christ in the Gospels and the response of the disciples in the first reading. Today's response highlights persecution - those moments when our faith comes at a cost - and we witness the change in Peter who acts very differently in the light of Easter joy.
