St. Leo's life offers us three points to consider for our own faith:

  • We are committed to a long journey
  • There are challenges without
  • There are challenges within

St. Leo, PRAY FOR US!  Help us to turn to Jesus Christ as we face the blessings and burdens of life.

"Do you want to be a saint?"  When we look at the lives of the saints we see people just like us - young/old, rich/poor, possessing a wide variety of skills, experiences, and abilities.  May their example inspire us to live our faith in Christ...so we can one day rejoice with them in heaven.

The miracle of the Mass touches our lives in a number of crucial ways:  We hear the Word of God; we receive the Sacrament of Christ's Body & Blood; we unite as the Lord's disciples and pray together.  Below are three key words that can help us experience this miracle more fully:

  • Preparation
  • Focus
  • Engagement

What happens before, during and after each Mass can transform our hearts and change our lives.  May our communion with Jesus Christ nourish us for service in the world!

The mystery of the Holy Trinity - there is one God, revealed in three Persons - communicates that God comes to us in communion.  Indivisibly united, the Trinity teaches us that communion - being united together - is a key element to the practical experience of our lives.

Communion is crucial for all of us: family, friendship, co-workers, neighbors, classmates - even strangers - are all part of the fabric of our lives.  Indeed, we can evaluate ourselves in a very real way by taking measure of our communion with one another.

Where our communion is vibrant, we grow; where it is wounded, we heal; and where it is broken, we come to the altar to receive Jesus Christ in Holy Communion to renew the communion of our hearts.  May this communion within the Trinity transform and unite us with almighty God and one another.

The Cross of Christ - ugly, filthy with the blood of countless victims, jagged, and splintered - becomes the sign of the depth and breadth of agony Jesus endured.  As he embraces his suffering, the Cross becomes a bridge whereby he unites with all humanity, meeting us in our most profound moments of weakness and sin, and gives us hope through his triumph over death.

We must understand the Cross in the light of Easter joy:

  • For if we only focus on the Cross then we have no hope; life becomes dark and filled with despair.
  • And if we only focus on Easter joy then we have no respect for the gift of the Lord's Passion; we do not appreciate the price that was paid for our salvation.

We look to the Cross and allow Christ's Passion to touch our lives.  We unite with Jesus and give grateful thanks that he has redeemed us in every aspect of our lives.

Come to the Cross and unite your heart to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ.

Be redeemed by Love Himself, who gave his life to save and set us free.

At the Last Supper Jesus teaches and commands his disciples:

  • Receive his Body & Blood
  • Give your life in service to others

In our reception of Holy Communion may we be strengthened and renewed to offer our lives, following the example of Christ.

The Incarnation of Jesus - who is both the Son of God and the Son of Mary - helps us understand the way that God has drawn near to us.  The bridge between the human and divine was made possible when Jesus - born of Mary - closed the gap between heaven and earth.  God comes to us so that we may come to know God!

As we begin to move into a New Year, what gaps and obstacle are before us?  As we begin to see the challenges in our lives, may we turn to the Son of Mary for the help and strength we need to face life with the conviction that God continues to reach out to us in love.

There are times when we formally say "Yes, I accept" to new opportunities in our lives.  Mary's "yes" to the angel Gabriel gives us an example and model as the Lord invites us to follow our call.

The feast of Christ the King reminds us that Jesus Christ - the king of the universe - comes to us in a loving and accessible way.  He's the judge, the savior, the messiah, and the Lord - yet for all that power and glory he breaks through all boundaries to come to us in the midst of our human weakness and fraility.

The king became like us...so we can know him!

The Dedication of the Lateran Basilica reminds us that our churches are sacred spaces where we encounter the depth and breadth of human experience in the context of God's grace.  We come before the Lord in our need - reaching out in gratitude and petition - that we might be renewed in faith, hope, and love.

There are many ways to say "I love you" to the people in our lives:

  • with words
  • with actions
  • being present to another in silence and stillness

The reality of love, its power and beauty, can thus be expressed in many different ways.  Similarly, the love of God is revealed to us through the mystery of the Trinity: one God, revealed in three Persons.

May we enter into this great mystery of God's love, and may we express this love - in a variety of powerful ways - to the people in our lives.
